Process Piece

NOTE: I couldn't figure out how to turn the sound off, so just mute the video when you watch it. Thanks!!

Making the video was pretty straightforward. I knew that making a smoothie is something that typically makes a lot of noise so it would be interesting to see what it's like without any sound at all. Do our minds automatically fill in what we think the blender should sound like? Are we surprised when we hear no sound? In the process of creating this video, I found myself thinking about sound and how it changes an experience. Because there is no sound in this video we notice the absence of what we think should be there. It also allowed me to notice what it looks like when the different ingredients blend together- the color changes and you can really focus on the process of the ingredients combining into a smoothie, which sometimes is overlooked because the sound of the blender is so overpowering.

Making a smoothie, as a process, is actually very simple. All I need to do is throw some berries, spinach and almond milk into the blender. I've gotten really good at it and can do it pretty quickly. But the better I've got at this process, the more I've wanted to try putting new and different ingredients in my blender. I sometimes get tired of the same thing over and over! As I learn to perfect the process of smoothie making, I get better at it and enjoy it more. This video allowed me to capture the skill I've gained by smoothie making and also think of ways to make my smoothies better. I appreciated being able to self-reflect in that way.
