DMP Theme

  “How to deal when you just can’t deal” : The stories of individuals with various personality types, in a variety of situations, who have found specific ways to address their personal needs during the turmoil and uncertainty of 2020 and beyond. It might be interesting to begin with having all of our actors out on the stage, with sounds of crowds and chaos surrounding. Then we could highlight one individual at a time to share their story to emphasize that these ways of de-stressing and taking care of ourselves are very unique to who we are. We can use a voice over to “narrate” a story as we act it out. Similar to Kid History or Drunk History. This could even be an abstract version showing how a person may be feeling inside. We could use music to set the tone of anxiety and uncertainty, then again use music cues to indicate some of the sense of relief and peace which comes from people’s self care approaches. Intention Activity

 Intention Activity: Creating with the Body One idea from the book that I loved was the Dallowinian Party. I loved the idea of having the students dress up as characters and then having them interact with each other while staying true to character. I think this kind of activity is super fun for students because everyone believes in the shared world together. There are two different ways I would do this in a classroom. The first is to take a play or text (or several) that we'd been reading, such as a few Shakespeare plays, and have each student as a different character. Then I'd incorporate a few situations similar to what happens in the plays and have the characters react realistically. The second way I'd do this is have the students invent their own characters, maybe spend a few class periods developing them, and then bring them all together to interact with each other.
